Kitchen Sink Drain Blockage

Telephoned Happy Drains early morning. Was told a technician would come to me late afternoon. He arrived at 4pm after telephoning to advise his arrival time. He asked where the blockage was and then got on with clearing it. No time wasted. Once the U bend had been taken apart the blockage was sucked out. Then the U bend was reassembled to show me the blockage had been cleared. All done very efficiently and effectively with very little mess being caused. I was very pleased and impressed.

Effective, efficient and friendly.

We got in touch with Happy Drains when both our basin and bath stopped draining completely. It was not an emergency but an employee visited us within two days, carried out the work quickly and effectively with a very friendly demeanour and only charged the amount agreed prior to his visit - no additional work was suggested or required. We will definitely keep their details should we ever need their services again.

Local Drainage Expertise — Alton & Hampshire

Understanding Alton's Housing & Drainage Mix

Alton's diverse housing stock, from period terraces to modern estates, presents unique drainage challenges across the GU34 postcode area. Our 20+ years of Hampshire experience means we understand how Victorian-era clay pipes behave differently from modern PVC systems. The town's expansion over recent decades has created a complex network where older systems connect to newer infrastructure, requiring specialist knowledge to diagnose issues effectively. We've successfully resolved drainage problems across Alton's varied neighborhoods, from central conservation areas to peripheral developments.

Hampshire's Geology & Seasonal Drainage Impacts

The clay-heavy soil throughout the Alton and Bordon region creates specific challenges for drainage systems, particularly during Hampshire's wet winter months. Clay soil expansion puts pressure on rigid pipe joints, often causing leaks or blockages that only become apparent during heavy rainfall periods. Our local expertise includes understanding how seasonal ground movement affects different pipe materials and depths. This knowledge proves invaluable when recommending repair methods that will withstand Hampshire's seasonal variations.

Rural Drainage Solutions Around Alton

Many properties in the GU34 and GU35 areas rely on off-mains drainage systems, from simple soakaways to complex treatment plants serving rural developments. Our NADC membership ensures we stay current with Environment Agency regulations affecting Hampshire's rural properties. We understand the specific maintenance requirements for septic systems in Hampshire's soil conditions and provide emergency support when these systems fail, particularly important for isolated properties around Alton where mains drainage connection isn't feasible.

Alton's mix of Victorian and modern housing creates unique drainage challenges. Older properties often suffer from tree root intrusion and deteriorated clay pipes, while kitchen waste and soap buildup affect all housing types. We recently traced a blockage in nearby Overton RG25 to the public sewer, demonstrating how Hampshire's aging infrastructure can impact individual properties.

Should I get a drain survey before buying a house in Alton?

Absolutely essential for Alton property purchases, particularly given the area's mix of housing ages and Hampshire's clay soil conditions. Do drainage problems in Alton get worse during Hampshire's wet winters?

Yes, Alton's seasonal weather patterns significantly impact drainage systems, particularly affecting properties built on Hampshire's clay soil which expands when waterlogged. Winter rainfall often reveals weaknesses in older drain joints and increases surface water flooding. Our preventive maintenance programs help Alton residents avoid costly emergency call-outs during the wettest months.
